GROCERY STORE TOURS & PANTRY CLEAN OUTS
Why would I need a grocery store tour?
Half the battle of eating well is knowing what to shop for and where to find the right ingredients. We’ll meet at a local grocery store of your choice where I’ll provide you with a shopping list of my favorite staples and specialty items, and we’ll make our way through the store, answering your questions as we go. Specific examples include:
Choosing quality meat, eggs and dairy, and the differences between grass fed, pastured, humanely raised, free range, cage-free, and conventionally raised animals.
How to shop for produce and when it’s important to buy organic.
How to buy bulk ingredients like grains, dried beans and lentils, and herbs and spices.
Shopping for allergen-free alternatives when switching to a gluten free diet or eliminating dairy.
Where to find special items like nutritional yeast, spirulina, coconut oil, fermented vegetables, seaweeds, and flax seeds.
Interpreting packaged food labels, key words to look for, and what to avoid.
How to shop for supplements to ensure quality and efficacy.
What is a pantry clean out?
One of my biggest tips for healthy eating is to make it easy to eat well, and hard to eat poorly, and the first step is to get rid of the junk. This is sometimes easier said than done, and it can be helpful to have my help in clearing the “clutter” in your pantry, fridge, and freezer. I will come to your house and together we will go through your food items and get rid of the foods that no longer serve you. You’ll be amazed at how much you’ll learn throughout the process, and at how much better your kitchen will feel afterwards. It’s also a great opportunity to ask me questions about nutrition and healthy eating.
